Put It Down!

A live workshop for women who are tired of managing, reminding, checking, fixing—and eventually doing it themselves because “otherwise it won't get done.”

Imagine feeling supported, having room to breathe, and actually enjoying the people you're doing all this for.

You're Doing Too Much

Maybe you...

Remind him because otherwise he'll forget.

Check behind him because you need to make sure it actually got done.

Take over because he's taking too long.

Do it yourself because it's easier.

Manage his mood because everyone has a better night if he's not irritated.

Keep the mental list of what everyone needs, where everyone needs to be, and what needs to happen next.

And somewhere along the way, being helpful turned into being responsible for everybody.

What Would You Have Room For If You Weren't Doing It All?

Mary was tired of fighting with the kids about chores—and then being questioned by her husband about how she handled it.

She realized something.

The chores mattered more to him.

So she put them down.

"Hey babe, you care more about this than me...you can take care of it instead."

He took over. She had one less thing to manage, felt more supported by him, and had less tension with the kids.

It didn't disappear. It just stopped belonging to her.

In my life...My husband buys the pet food. He feeds the dogs and cat.

I genuinely don't know if they've eaten today.

Not because I don't care about them.

Because they're not my responsibility.

I went through my camera roll recently and noticed the toys all over the floor.

The full laundry hamper in the background.
Junk piled on the counter.

And everyone was smiling, laughing and playing.

That's the stuff I remember.

Not whether the dishes got done. Not whether the laundry was put away.

I remember being with the people I really love.

Sometimes putting things down is realizing they didn't need to be done right then in the first place.

Maybe the kids eat chicken nuggets and mac & cheese instead of the dinner you would've made.

They're fed. You didn't cook.

Good enough can buy you an entire evening back...especially if you hate cooking!

There's A Name for This... Overfunctioning.

In this live workshop, we're going to unpack the overfunctioning/underfunctioning cycle and, more importantly, figure out how to get out of it.

You'll learn:

FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY CARRYING
Identify the obvious—and not-so-obvious—ways you're managing other adults.

DECIDE WHAT YOU CAN PUT DOWN
Not everything you're responsible for today actually needs to belong to you.

HAND IT OVER WITHOUT SUPERVISING
Because reminding, checking and correcting isn't actually giving responsibility away.

KNOW WHAT TO DO INSTEAD
Because “just stop doing everything” is shitty advice if nobody shows you how...and you would've already done it if it actually worked!

This does not mean CARE LESS...it means CARRY LESS.

Less managing.
Less reminding.
Less resentment.

More support. More partnership. More room to actually enjoy the people you love.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth!

Couples therapist. Mom of four. Former chronic overfunctioner.

I spent years believing that if I worked harder, anticipated more, fixed more and took responsibility for more, I could make my first marriage work.

I couldn't.

Today, I'm remarried in a relationship that feels like a true partnership.

Not because I found some magical perfect guy.

I learned to get out of my own way.

I learned what's mine to own, what isn't—and how to make room for someone else to show up as my partner.

And that's what I want to help you start doing.

YOU CAN PUT IT DOWN.

You don't have to stop caring.

You don't have to become irresponsible.

And you don't have to wait for your husband to change.

You just need to know what's actually yours to carry.
